Professor Paul Hartley

Paul is a 3rd degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with over 20 years of study, is certified by the IBJJF and is the Chief instructor and Head Professor at Putney BJJ.

As a 40-year veteran of martial arts, a Master Instructor and a multi-competition medalist, Paul now focuses solely on producing the next generation of champions and enthusiasts alike.

Paul is renowned for his technical coaching and teaching style within a disciplined but fun atmosphere. Paul has earned the loyal following of his championship competition team, as well as newcomers to the art.

“My greatest achievement is to drive enthusiasm and a love for the art. I don’t care who you are or where you’re from. Everyone is welcome in our Academy, and I will help you achieve your goal, whether it be fitness, skill, promotion or medals”.

Tim Grant

Tim has trained under Paul for 9 years, a Black belt and masters competitor.

Tim and Paul opened Putney BJJ together.

All of Paul’s Senior belts instruct classes and lead the team. Tim’s focus is the member community and team administration.

Ollie Dixon

Ollie is a BJJ Brown Belt who has been training under Professor Paul for seven years. He is the lead instructor for the kids' classes here at Putney BJJ. Ollie is an excellent teacher, breaking down techniques in an easy and digestible way for kids to understand. In addition to his work at the academy, he teaches drums in his day job, which makes him an outstanding all-around teacher. Ollie is also first aid qualified and has a DBS check, ensuring the safety and well-being of all his students.

Additionally, Ollie's background in music education has equipped him with unique skills in patience, discipline, and communication, all of which are invaluable in teaching young children. His dual expertise in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and music allows him to connect with kids on multiple levels, fostering a positive and engaging learning environment. At PutneyBJJ, Ollie is dedicated to helping each child grow in confidence, discipline, and technical skill in a fun and supportive atmosphere.

Alex Geddes

Joining the club during his Sports Science degree, Alex quickly settled into consistent daily training while working as the gym manager. Alex is an increasingly experienced adult competitor, pushing at the top end of UK BJJ. He has earned medals at the IBJJF Europeans in both Gi and No-Gi categories.

Alex leads the Fundamentals and Junior Programs at Putney BJJ. His strong background in sports science, combined with his practical experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, enables him to provide well-rounded and effective coaching.

Alex's dedication to the sport and his achievements in competition serve as an inspiration to both new and seasoned practitioner.

Robynne J

Robynne is a BJJ Blue Belt currently studying for her PhD. She is an assistant kids' class coach and a valued member of the Putney BJJ family. All of the kids look up to and respect her. Robynne is also first aid trained and has a DBS check, ensuring the safety and well-being of the children she coaches.

Robynne’s academic background and dedication to her PhD studies exemplify her commitment to excellence and continuous learning. These qualities shine through in her coaching, where she brings a thoughtful and disciplined approach to teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Her ability to connect with the kids, combined with her passion for the sport, creates an inspiring and supportive environment for young students at Putney BJJ.
